Autumn 1 Timetable

September 2026

It has been a wonderful start to Year 4. The children have returned eager, enthusiastic and ready to learn, and they have settled into the new academic year extremely well. We are also delighted to have begun our digital strategy, with each child using an iPad and stylus to support and enhance their learning. The children thoroughly enjoyed unboxing their devices and taking ownership of them.

In Maths, the children have been learning about place value and have enjoyed using the online platform Magma Maths to support and assess their understanding. In English, they have been writing stories set in imaginary worlds, developing their descriptive writing by selecting and using an increasingly ambitious range of vocabulary.

Our PE lessons have been equally engaging. On Tuesdays, we have been focusing on team building and exploring how to work together effectively. The children developed strategies to win games of noughts and crosses using PE equipment, which became a very competitive and enjoyable challenge. On Fridays, we have been learning the skills required to play an effective netball match, including passing, marking and defending.

In History, we have begun our topic on the Ancient Greeks. The children had great fun becoming archaeologists, using paintbrushes to uncover artefacts and deciding what they might have been used for. In Art, we have been exploring tone and texture using a range of materials, including sketching pencils, charcoal and oil pastels. At the end of the unit, the children will design and sketch their own Greek theatre masks, creating a meaningful link with our History topic.

In Science, we have been learning about teeth and digestion. The children explored how food passes through the body and conducted an experiment investigating the effects of different liquids on teeth, using eggshells to represent tooth enamel.

We are very proud of the children’s positive attitude, enthusiasm and growing independence. Thank you for your continued support as we begin what promises to be an exciting and productive year in Year 4.

Finally, please encourage your child to practise their times tables regularly at home. Developing fluency in times tables is very important and will support their confidence and progress across many areas of Mathematics.
