We hope you enjoy having a look at all the fun and exciting things we are doing in Butterflies Class this year.

February 2019

The children enjoyed a visit from Explore Learning where the children looked at ‘twisted fairy-tale’ and ‘safari shapes’. The children had to use different adjectives to change Little Red Riding Hood and then use circles, triangles and squares to make different animals that you might see on Safari, we had a whole variety of animals ranging from elephants to tigers!

In Literacy, Butterflies have been looking at ‘The Night Shimmy’. We have started making a text map of the story and we are building up to writing our own version of the story.

In Numeracy, we have finished looking at 2D and 3D shapes and started looking at fractions and exploring what a ‘half’ means. Next, we will be looking at quarters and thirds.

January 2019

The children in Butterflies class have settled back to school after the Christmas holidays very well! In Numeracy, we have just finished looking at division and started tally charts and pictograms where the children have been making their own about different things in the classroom.

In Literacy, we have been looking at the story of ‘Hansel and Gretel’, which the children have been putting into story mountains/maps and then adapting into their own story by changing one part.

The children took part in a Perform Drama workshop where they all had to be superheroes and learnt about reduce, reuse, recycle and how this can help save the planet!

December 2018

Butterflies class have been very busy as usual this month! In Numeracy, we have been looking at different methods to solve multiplication number sentences including using arrays, stem sentences and repeated addition. We also managed to win the attendance award meaning we got a special visit from Katie and David showing us all their different magic tricks.

November 2018

Butterflies class have had a very busy November! In Literacy, they have been learning about rounds where they even made up their own round to perform to the rest of the class based off ‘London’s burning’. In Maths, Butterflies class have just started learning multiplication including the two, five and ten times table which they have thoroughly enjoyed! In Foundation, they have been learning the Christmas story, which saw them making the Nativity scene out of various materials including clay, paint and tissue paper.

October 2018

Butterflies class really enjoyed swimming lessons. They learnt numerous things including walking in the water and swimming using a float on their front and backs.

September 2018

Welcome to Butterflies class! I am very pleased at how well all the children have settled back into the routine of school life. They have all been very hard working and trying their best!

So far this term, we have looked at 'Animal and Us' in topic where the children have learnt about themselves and the various animals around us. In Literacy, we have been looking at different fables and retelling the stories which the children have really enjoyed! In Numeracy we have been looking at different ways of proving we know the answer as well as working on our number bonds.

The children really enjoyed the Maths teams building session we took part in. They had to work together using different shapes to create different pictures.
